    Ford’s Theatre

    On April 14, 1865 — Good Friday — John Wilkes Booth slipped into the presidential box during 'Our American Cousin' and shot Lincoln once behind the ear. The President died the next morning across the street at the Petersen House. Booth, a famous actor, had performed on that very stage; the reopened theater's staff have reported his presence ever since.
