Sleep in a haunted place
127 of the archive's 3,516 dossiers are rooms that still take guests — hotels, inns, motels and lodges filed open to the public and still standing. In these files the legend and the ledger share a building: you can book the room the witnesses wrote about.

What "open" means
Open is a filing, not a promise. The record marks these 127 places public because the last source on file said so — a booking page, a tourism board, a park listing. Status is the same kind of evidence: operating or unconfirmed, never surveyed by this archive. A hotel that closed last season can carry an open mark until the record catches up, so call before you drive.
The filing is also narrower than the legend. Most haunted lodgings in the record take daytime guests but keep the reported room unlisted, or book the room and say nothing about it. Two of the files above — the Crescent and the Stanley — lean the other way and run their own tours; they're cross-filed on the tours shelf.
And the shelf itself is narrow: rooms only. Add the bars, saloons and restaurants where you drink but don't sleep and the count climbs to the full Haunted Stays group; everything legally walkable in the archive sits on the open shelf.
