    On April 3, 1898 — Palm Sunday — an avalanche thundered down the Chilkoot Trail between Sheep Camp and the Scales, burying stampeders in snow up to thirty feet deep; roughly 70 died, the Klondike's worst single tragedy. They lie in Dyea's Slide Cemetery beneath wooden markers, and the trail itself is now part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
