  1. 1866history
    Fetterman Battlefield

On December 21, 1866, Fetterman’s 80-man command was annihilated by Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors. The record dates it to 1866-12-21. The site's documented military history is the record the rest of the file stands on. It's verified history: the dossier's load-bearing detail. The record appears in 'Fetterman Fight'. The detail belongs to the verified spine of the entry.

  2. 1866event
    Fetterman Battlefield

On December 21, 1866, Captain William Fetterman led 80 men beyond the hills despite orders — and a Lakota-Cheyenne-Arapaho decoy party drew them into a trap that killed every soldier in about forty minutes. It was the Army's worst Plains defeat to that date, second only to Custer later; the battlefield lies quiet outside Story.
