  1. 1799history
    Red Hill

Henry died here June 6, 1799; the grave and house survive. Red Hill's documented history is the record the rest of the file stands on. The fact is historically verified — the part of the file that doesn't need hedging. The detail is preserved in 'Red Hill'. The record keeps it — history, not lore. The report keeps its place in the record.

    Brookneal, Virginia
  2. 1912history
    Katmai Village

The June 1912 Novarupta eruption buried Katmai-coast villages in ash; residents were permanently relocated. The documented date is 1912-06-06–1912-06-08. The site's documented history is the record the rest of the file stands on. The record holds it as fact — documented, not retold. The record appears in 'Katmai National Park'. The entry's timeline holds it; the lore holds the rest.

  3. 1912event
    Katmai Village

On June 6-8, 1912, Novarupta exploded in the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century — sixty hours of ash and a pyroclastic flood that filled a valley hundreds of feet deep. Katmai village was evacuated hours before burial; the eruption created the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and, eventually, the national monument itself.
