The brakeman is the Paulding Light's named explanation — the railroad man killed on the line whose lantern is said to still signal over the Robbins Pond Road valley. The legend locals tell first, the one the forest-service sign acknowledges, the one the headlight study never quite replaced. It remains the site's standing claim.
