The Thing

Sources attach this name to the 1 place below. The name itself is part of the folklore record.

White House

'The Thing' is the White House's omen — the demon cat said to appear in the basement before national calamities: reported before the 1929 crash and, per basement staff lore, before Kennedy's assassination. It's the residence's most ominous legend, the federal banshee. The basement keeps its omen. The file stays open on it.
