What a long story measures

Story length tracks documentation depth, not importance — and not fear. The top of this table is battlefields, historic districts and landmarked cemeteries: places with deep paper trails, where the record has decades of documented material to write from. A thin dossier is rarely a quiet place; it is usually a loud legend with no paperwork behind it.

The spread itself is narrow by design. The archive writes every file to a similar band — 140 words at the short end, 711 at the long — so even the heaviest read here finishes inside 4 minutes. What the table ranks, really, is how much verifiable ground the filing had to cover.

And the count is the count of the story blocks only — the narrative a dossier opens with. Claims, legends, history facts and source notes sit outside the tally; the full dossier always reads longer than the number printed here.
