The record — long form

North Field on Tinian was, in the summer of 1945, the busiest airfield in the world — four parallel 8,500-foot runways built by Seabees after the island fell in 1944, launching B-29s around the clock against Japan. At its edge stand two small concrete pits, preserved and marked, which the Marianas Visitors Authority identifies as the loading points for the atomic missions: it was here that the weapons were lowered into position and raised into the bomb bays of the aircraft that flew to Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

The mechanics were deliberate. The bombs could not be loaded conventionally — the pit let the weapon sit below grade while the aircraft was positioned over it, then hoisted aboard. Little Boy went into Enola Gay for the August 6 strike; Fat Man into Bockscar three days later.

What the file keeps precise

The research notes enforce two disciplines. The source's description of the weapons' material is erroneous and is not repeated; and the assignment of a specific pit to a specific weapon is unverified — the record supports 'the pits that loaded the two missions,' not pit-by-pit attribution. The file also makes no access assumptions: Tinian's North Field is a heritage landscape with military dimensions, and visiting conditions require current confirmation.

There are no paranormal claims in this dossier, and none are needed. The archive keeps the pits as what they are — among the most consequential hundred square feet of concrete ever poured, quietly preserved at the end of a runway in the Northern Marianas.
