Is Concrete City haunted?

No claims are filed here — the record keeps this place for its documented history, not for a haunting on file.

The record — long form

Concrete City is the housing the company couldn't demolish — the twenty poured-concrete duplexes the DL&W railroad built in 1911 as the 'Garden City of the Anthracite Region,' model homes for the Truesdale Colliery's chosen men, poured one house a day from flatcars and strong enough to outlast everything. The residents had to be English-speaking and high-ranked; the houses had no bathrooms.

Glen Alden took it over and walked away in 1924 — the concrete was too expensive to fix and too strong to bring down, so the company abandoned it standing. The dynamite the town tried later scarred it without removing it; the Garden City is a ruin of its own material, the experiment in worker housing that proved only the permanence of concrete.

The file keeps Concrete City: the poured duplexes, the chosen tenants, the 1924 abandonment, and the housing that refused to be demolished.

Concrete City is the archive's anthracite file — the model homes, the impossible demolition, and the ruin the company left.

Why this file matters

Concrete City is the archive's anthracite file — the 1911 model housing, the abandonment, and the buildings that wouldn't fall.

Housing too strong to demolish keeps its walls — the file's suggestion being that Concrete City's hold is the durability: the experiment that outlasted its purpose, its owners, and the dynamite that was supposed to end it.
