Is Bellaire House haunted?
The record holds 2 claims, 1 legend — filed as reported, not verified. The heaviest filing is classed local folklore. The archive documents the claim; it takes no position on the ghost.
The record — long form
The Bellaire House sells its history before it sells anything else — and the file holds that history at arm's length. The promotional narrative attached to the 1699 Belmont Street property describes a house built around 1904 for coal operator Jacob Heatherington above a worked-out mine, forty-two unrecovered bodies below, a burial cave behind, a ley line underneath, and the Underground Railroad in between. None of that chain is independently verified, and this dossier declines to print it as fact.
What is documented is the haunted-house business itself: owner Kristen Lee purchased the building in 2005 and opened it to paranormal groups, and the reports that followed — shadow figures, adult and child apparitions, EVPs, equipment malfunctions, and the owner's own account of being attacked in her sleep — are filed as claims.
The September 2019 investigation
The Ghost Research Society, with guests from two other groups, worked the house the night of September 14–15, 2019 — EVP sessions, ghost boxes, an SLS mapping camera, and an ITC experiment on a dead-analog television. The result was less a haunting than a split decision.
One investigator recorded a quiet night and heard nothing on playback. Another was woken at 7:43 a.m. by a woman talking in the hallway — a voice the only other woman present said wasn't hers. A third smelled cigarette smoke in a room of non-smokers just as his partner reported a tall shadow folding linen behind him. The SLS camera drew a stick figure by the living-room mantel, and the word-generators produced names — 'Haley,' 'witch,' 'opium' — that the owner matched to her own associations. Filed as the investigators recorded it; interpretation left to the reader.
The record of claims
Accounts describe shadow figures and apparitions; 2019 participants reported voices and cigarette odor. Bellaire House wears the claim the way old houses do: visibly, and without comment. The claim is neighborhood knowledge — retold locally, verified nowhere. The apparition is the file's anchor — every other report orbits it.
September 14–15, 2019 participants disagreed in experience: several sessions produced no EVP, while other participants described subjective voices, smoke odor and an SLS figure. The account has been recorded since 2019-09-14. Bellaire House in Bellaire, Ohio is the kind of old house where every sound eventually gets a name. It's an investigation claim — the kind that convinces the people who were in the room. Investigators logged it; the interpretation remains the investigator's own.
Accounts describe shadow figures and apparitions; 2019 participants reported voices and cigarette odor. Bellaire House wears the claim the way old houses do: visibly, and without comment. Local lore carries the account; no documentation has ever caught up with it. The account appears in 'Bellaire House Investigation'. As folklore it's unkillable: the story is too good, and the place too fitting, to let go.
