Is Best Farm/L'Hermitage haunted?

No claims are filed here — the record keeps this place for its documented history, not for a haunting on file.

The record — long form

Best Farm is the torture plantation — L'Hermitage's 90 enslaved, the Vincendières' instruments that were seen in 1798. The Haitian refugees were the owners — the Saint-Domingue planters who brought the system, the second-largest slaveholding in Frederick County. The 'instruments of torture' were the witness — the stocks and whips that Niemcewicz wrote, the crippled who sued.

The Lost Order was the accident — Lee's Special Order 191 wrapped around cigars, the 27th Indiana soldier who found it in '62. The battlefield was the later use — the '64 Monocacy fight, the Confederate artillery in the barn. Best Farm is the cruel estate — the French plantation that tortured its slaves, the farm where the order was lost.

The file keeps Best Farm: the Vincendière cruelty, the 90 enslaved, the Lost Order, and the battle.

Best Farm is the archive's Frederick file — the plantation of torture.

Why this file matters

Best Farm is the archive's Frederick file — the slave village on the battlefield.

A farm keeps its cruelties — the file's suggestion being that L'Hermitage's hold is the record: the torture instruments that were documented, the 90 enslaved, and the lost order that was found.
