Historic sites

The broadest classification in the archive — a place already recognized as historic before any claim was filed against it. These dossiers tend to be double-entry bookkeeping: the documented past on one side, the reported present on the other. A historic designation settles what happened; it says nothing about what stayed. The files record where the two accounts run parallel and where witnesses claim they intersect.
