The record — long form
Delaware City survives in the 1937 Nebraska History inventory of the state's ghost towns as a platted site two miles east and half a mile south of Dunbar, in the Otoe County country along the Missouri's western valley. Like dozens of contemporaries, it belonged to the speculative generation of the 1854 territorial opening — a plat filed on the expectation that settlers, roads, and county favor would arrive to fill it.
What the record preserves instead is a transaction: the survey notes the site's recorded transfer following foreclosure. The plat changed hands; the town did not materialize. Delaware City stands in the file as one of the plainer specimens of the paper-town species — documented location, documented failure, and nothing else asked of the record.
