Is Gold Point haunted?

No claims are filed here — the record keeps this place for its documented history, not for a haunting on file.

The record — long form

Gold Point is the ghost town that never fully emptied — Lime Point in 1868, Hornsilver in 1908 when the silver strike brought eight hundred people and eleven saloons for a year, then the 1932 rename when the Great Western found gold. The New York Giants' owner bought the mine in 1922; the war took the miners in 1942; the dynamite caved in the works in the sixties — but someone always stayed.

Fifty buildings still stand on the original streets — the post office that closed in 1968, the Hornsilver telephone office that's a private saloon now, the cabins the handful of residents have been restoring since Herb Robbins started stabilization in 1979. The Memorial Day cook-off fills it back to five hundred once a year; the rest of the time it's seven to ten people and the hundred-year-old wood still standing in the sagebrush.

The file keeps Gold Point: Lime Point, Hornsilver, the 1932 rename, and the ghost town that was never abandoned.

Gold Point is the archive's living-ghost file — the town that never emptied and the fifty buildings still standing.

Why this file matters

Gold Point is the archive's living-ghost file — the 1868 camp that's never been empty.

A ghost town with residents keeps its post office — the file's suggestion being that Gold Point's hold is the persistence: the boom-bust-boom-bust cycle that always left someone watching, and the buildings that made it to the other side because somebody stayed.
