Is MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History haunted?

The record holds 1 claim, 1 legend — filed as reported, not verified. The heaviest filing is classed documented legend. The archive documents the claim; it takes no position on the ghost.

The record — long form

The MacArthur Museum is the arsenal's survivor — the 1840 Tower Building that is the only remaining structure of the Little Rock Arsenal, the munitions warehouse with walls three feet thick where Douglas MacArthur was born on January 26, 1880. The arsenal surrendered twice: to Arkansas in 1861 and to the Union in 1863.

The building was the post — the arsenal built when Arkansas entered the Union in 1836, the 30-building complex that Captain Totten surrendered peacefully in February 1861 rather than see it seized. The women of Little Rock gave him a ceremonial sword for the bloodless handover. MacArthur's father was stationed there when the general was born in the Tower Building.

The building is still there — the National Historic Landmark in MacArthur Park, the museum of Arkansas military history that opened in 2001, the tornado hole in the roof that the three-foot walls shrugged off. The file keeps the arsenal: the 1840 Tower Building, the two surrenders, and the general's birthplace that's the post's last wall.

The MacArthur Museum is the archive's arsenal file — the Tower Building, the birthplace of a five-star general, and the survivor of a fort that was traded for a park.

Why this file matters

The MacArthur Museum is the archive's arsenal file — the last building of the Little Rock Arsenal, MacArthur's birthplace, and the survivor of the arsenal that surrendered twice.

An arsenal that birthed a general keeps its tower — the file's suggestion being that the Tower Building's hold is the birth: the three-foot walls, the 1880 birth in the munitions warehouse, and the building that's the arsenal's only remnant.
