Battlefields

Ground that already gave its account in the official record — casualty lists, after-action reports, monuments — and which carries a second filing of figures, sounds and lights that witnesses attach to the first. The archive treats the two separately: what the battle records establish, and what visitors report on the field afterward. Some claims here are nearly as old as the battles; the dossiers note when a report entered the record and where.
