Is Lake End Parkway / Highway 70 haunted?

The record holds 1 claim, 1 legend — filed as reported, not verified. The heaviest filing is classed local folklore. The archive documents the claim; it takes no position on the ghost.

The record — long form

Lake End Parkway runs beside Lake Palourde on the edge of Morgan City, and the woman reported on its foggy stretches has a documented name. On the night of July 1, 1927 — in the middle of the Great Flood — James LeBoeuf, superintendent of the Morgan City power plant, took a skiff onto the lake to meet Dr. Thomas Dreher, his wife's physician and alleged lover, ostensibly to settle their feud. LeBoeuf's body was later pulled from the water with shotgun wounds. His wife, Ada Bonner LeBoeuf, and Dreher were convicted of conspiring in the killing; a third man present that night, James Beadle, drew a prison term at Angola and lived.

On February 1, 1929, Ada LeBoeuf was hanged from a gallows built inside the St. Mary Parish jail — the first woman executed in Louisiana. Dreher followed her from the same gallows about twenty minutes later. The case never settled: contemporaries charged an unfair trial, Lt. Gov. Paul St. Cyr's opposition to her execution started a lasting feud with Gov. Huey Long, and later accounts — including the book "Ada and the Doc" — argue she was hanged as much for adultery as for murder.

The mist on the parkway

The reported apparition is a woman on the Lake End Parkway and Highway 70 corridor, most often on misty and foggy nights — the same lake country where the skiffs met. The identification with Ada LeBoeuf is a modern one, consolidated when the 2019 Travel Channel series "Ghosts of Morgan City" tied reports of a shape-shifting mist around town to her story, and the Cajun Coast visitor guide now files the apparition under her name.

The file keeps the sequence straight: a documented 1927 killing, a controversial execution, and a ghost attribution assembled decades later by television and tourism. Nothing about the mist is proven; the injustice underneath it is well documented.

The record of claims

Local folkloreHaunting

The Cajun Coast guide recounts a female apparition attributed to Ada LeBoeuf. The crossing keeps its reports the way roads keep their warnings — repeated, local, and hard to fully dismiss. The claim is neighborhood knowledge — retold locally, verified nowhere. 'Cajun Coast Visitors Guide 2020–2021: Ghosts of the Coast' carries the account. The haunting claim is now part of the site's identity, filed alongside the documented history.

Local folklore

The Cajun Coast guide recounts a female apparition attributed to Ada LeBoeuf. Lake End Parkway / Highway 70's legend rides the corridor itself: a stretch of Louisiana ground where drivers have told the same story for years. Local lore carries the account; no documentation has ever caught up with it. 'Cajun Coast Visitors Guide 2020–2021: Ghosts of the Coast' carries the account. It's the version the place will be remembered by, whether or not it's the true one.
