Is Blossomberg Cemetery haunted?
The record holds 1 claim — filed as reported, not verified. The heaviest filing is classed reported experience. The archive documents the claim; it takes no position on the ghost.
The record — long form
Blossomberg Cemetery lies inside Peninsula State Park near Fish Creek, on four acres along Mengelberg Lane in the Town of Gibraltar — a burial ground older than the park that contains it. It began as a private cemetery on the Anderson family's land; Gibraltar Township bought two acres for a hundred dollars in 1890, and fourteen marked graves already predated that sale, the earliest being Libbie G. Churches, 1881. The state took the surrounding land for Peninsula State Park in 1909, and the township added another 1.9 acres in 1951.
The name records the weather: Ole Klugeland, a Scandinavian settler with a farm near Eagle Bluff, called the windy ridge 'Blaasenberg' — Windy Mountain — and the cemetery kept the softened spelling. It was never a church cemetery and remains an active township burying ground, restricted to Gibraltar property owners and their kin.
Lights at a distance
Its haunting file is a single observation, filed as such: writing up a Door County ghost-trolley tour for the state tourism site, the author reported flickering yellow, blue, and orange lights beyond the reach of flashlights among the graves — and wrote 'Honest.' The research notes hold the line: a witness observation does not establish a supernatural source.
What the dossier certifies is the cemetery itself — a working pioneer-ground turned township cemetery, folded into a state park, keeping Door County's early families under the same windy ridge.
The record of claims
The article’s author reports observing distant colored flickering lights. Cemeteries keep their stories in the stones; Blossomberg Cemetery in Fish Creek, Wisconsin has its version filed among them. Witnesses report it; the record leaves it there. Whatever causes the lights, the reports of them are genuinely old.
