Forts

A fortification is built to be held, and the files suggest some are held past their muster rolls. These dossiers cover works that outlasted their garrisons — some preserved as parks, some abandoned outright — where reports attach to casemates, ramparts and parade grounds. The record distinguishes the documented sieges and deaths of a fort from the presences reported long after; both are filed, neither is conflated.
