Lighthouses

An isolated structure staffed for decades by a rotating handful of keepers, surrounded by water and weather — conditions that produce both excellent record-keeping and persistent reports. Lighthouse dossiers are among the most legible in the archive: the log books name dates, storms and wrecks, and the claims that follow them — footsteps on the tower stairs, a presence at the lamp — are filed against that documented ground.
